AS Roma has been once again linked to Newcastle United's star midfielder Yohan Cabaye as the Frenchman used to play under coach Rudi Garcia during his time at Lille.

Despite winning the first 10 games of the season in Serie A, there seems to be just one problem with the capital side and that is the concern of the squad depth.

The Italian side are already looking towards January to help reinforce the squad and they have already found three Premier League names to target.

Along with Cabaye, Tottenham duo Sandro and Lewis Holtby are believed to be on Roma's radar but the Newcastle player is the main target with Sandro the most unlikely to leave their respective clubs.

The Tyneside club value their player at a price of around 15 million pounds which is an amount which Roma would probably be willing to meet.

Roma have had their 10 match winning streak stopped at the hands of Torino with the game ending with a goal apiece.

The top of the table side traveled to Turin yesterday and they started well with a first half goal through Kevin Strootman with Miralem Pjanic who started as part of the front three bagging the assist.

In the second half, it was the home team who had the better of Roma and they finally cracked with Alessio Cerci finding the back of the net against his old side and his 8th of the season so far.

But the positive to come out of this match was that Nico Burdisso is still a capable third choice defender and they still remain unbeaten with a match against Sassuolo to come next week.

Nice forward Dario Cvitanich has revealed that he was given an opportunity to join AS Roma during the summer transfer window.

The Argentine was to be a replacement for Marco Borriello but he never ended up joining and Cvitanich has finally revealed why on Radio Monte Carlo.

"My future? Next season we will see. I had offers this summer. A club from Qatar came forward."

"I also had an offer from Roma at the end of the transfer window. It was a good opportunity for me but Nice rejected it."

Cvitanich has also hinted about a possible departure in the short future but has continued his goal scoring form this season at Nice with 4 goals from 5 appearances in Ligue One.

Roma veteran Nico Burdisso is all set to leave the club in the coming months with a return to his former club Boca Juniors looming near.

It is believed that the 32 year old will leave the Italian club which he joined in 2009 for a move back to his homeland in the January transfer window.

He has less than a year remaining on his current contract and the much loved Roma player could be released by mutual consent meaning that he would be free to leave the club.

The Roma board are looking to cut down on costs and the names which stick out are both Marco Borriello and Nico Burdisso with the duo both high earners despite their small role in the first team plans.
AS Roma are set to make a move in the January transfer market with a view to signing Lyon and French international striker Bafetimbi Gomis as a cheap reinforcement to the squad.

The Italian club believes that the French star who does not want to extend his contract at Lyon is the man to probably replace Marco Borriello so that the injury prone Mattia Destro can have back up with no other forward able to play his centre forward role although they have tried a modified formation with Totti playing in the centre of the front three.

The 28 year old has been linked with Newcastle United as well but sporting director Walter Sabatini wants to be them to the signature of Gomis despite the English side all but agreeing to his transfer late last month.

Fiorentina's Adem Ljajic is set to undergo a medical at AS Roma tomorrow with the 21 year-old having arrived in the city according to reports.

The Serbian international was believed to be heading for Milan but Galliani's side only offered 8 million euros and were to make an improved offer should they get through to the Champions League group stage tomorrow.

Roma however have beaten out their rivals with a 10 million euro bid plus 3 million euros in bonuses and Ljajic has told his teammates that he is Rome bound.

This will be a very like for like replacement for Lamela should he leave for Tottenham in the coming days.

Monday 26 August 2013

Roma appear to be set to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho who has been on the radar of both Milan and Liverpool.

It is believed that they will make a loan offer for the 23 year-old with a permanent option for 10 million euros in the coming day or so.

They are currently behind Milan in the race with Sakho suggesting that it was were he would like to go but they need to qualify for the Champions League this week in order to secure more funds.

Roma meanwhile will probably have to offload either one of Nico Burdisso or Leandro Castan to make sure there isn't too many central defenders on the squad list.

The two teams share a decent relationship among one another with Roma having sold Brazilian prodigy Marquinhos to the Parisian club at the start of the window which could help them beat Milan to the deal.
